The VOOLUP Size Guide: How to Measure for a Perfect Leather Jacket or Vest Fit

Chest, shoulder and sleeve measurements, plus a full US, UK and EU size conversion chart for men's and women's leather outerwear.

Buying leather online removes the fitting room from the equation, which makes accurate measurement the only thing standing between a jacket that feels tailor made and one that never quite sits right. Leather does not stretch to meet you halfway. It holds the shape it is cut to, so getting the size right before you order is not a small detail. It is the decision that determines whether the piece becomes a daily favourite or a closet regret.

This guide walks through exactly how to measure yourself at home, how those measurements translate to VOOLUP sizing, and how our sizes compare across US, UK and EU standards. If you have not yet read about how a jacket or vest should actually sit on the body once it fits, pair this with our leather jacket fit guide and leather vest fit guide for the complete picture.

Why Sizing Leather Correctly Matters More Than With Other Fabrics

Cotton gives. Wool relaxes. Leather does neither in any meaningful way at the outset. A hide that is cut and stitched to a specific size will remain close to that size for the life of the garment, softening slightly with wear but never truly stretching to compensate for an inaccurate purchase. That is why a proper tape measure check, taken against your own body rather than a guess at your usual size, is worth the two minutes it takes.

It also explains why sizing between brands, and even between fabric types, is rarely consistent. A size Large in a cotton jacket does not guarantee a size Large in leather. The chart below reflects how VOOLUP jackets and vests are cut, so use your actual measurements rather than the size you typically buy elsewhere.

How to Measure Yourself at Home

You will need a flexible tape measure and, ideally, a second person to help. Measure over a light shirt, not bare skin, since that is closer to how the leather will actually sit.

Chest

Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms and across the shoulder blades. Keep the tape level and snug without pulling it tight. This single measurement is the anchor for every size on the chart below.

Shoulder Width

Measure from the edge of one shoulder bone straight across the back to the edge of the other. This determines where the seam will sit, which as covered in our fit guides, is the one measurement leather cannot forgive after purchase.

Sleeve Length

With your arm slightly bent, measure from the edge of the shoulder bone down to the wrist bone. This applies to jackets only, since vests have no sleeves to account for.

Body Length

Measure from the base of the collar, at the back of the neck, straight down to where you want the hem to fall. Compare this against the natural waist for a biker or waxed silhouette, or the hip for a longer style.

VOOLUP Leather Jacket Size Chart

Use your chest measurement as the primary reference point. If you fall between two sizes and plan to layer over knitwear regularly, size up. If you plan to wear the jacket mostly over t-shirts and light layers, stay true to size.

Size Chest (in) Chest (cm) Shoulder (in) Sleeve (in)
S 36 to 38 91 to 97 17.0 24.5
M 39 to 41 99 to 104 17.75 25.0
L 42 to 44 107 to 112 18.5 25.5
XL 45 to 47 114 to 119 19.25 26.0
2XL 48 to 50 122 to 127 20.0 26.5
3XL 51 to 53 130 to 135 20.75 27.0

Measurements are approximate and can vary slightly by style. Not every jacket is offered in every size. Check the size selector on each product page for the exact range available, including our Vortex Men's Black Leather Jacket, offered from S to 2XL.

VOOLUP Leather Vest Size Chart

Vests use the same chest measurement as a starting point, but without a sleeve to account for, the fit sits closer to the body by design. Refer to your chest measurement first, then check the length against where you want the hem to land.

Size Chest (in) Chest (cm) Length (in)
S 36 to 38 91 to 97 24.0
M 39 to 41 99 to 104 24.5

XL 45 to 47 114 to 119 25.5
2XL 48 to 50 122 to 127 26.0

Men's and Women's Sizing Notes

The chest measurement is the anchor for both men's and women's pieces, but the cut around that measurement differs. Men's styles are cut with a broader, more square shoulder and a straighter torso line. Women's styles are cut with a higher armhole and a shaped waist, so the same chest number will sit differently on each. Do not assume a men's and a women's piece in the same letter size will fit identically. Always measure against the chart for the specific style you are ordering, and see our leather jacket fit guide for a full breakdown of how men's and women's cuts differ.

What to Do If You Are Between Sizes

If your chest measurement lands between two sizes, the decision comes down to intent. Sizing down gives a closer, more structured silhouette, well suited to biker and waxed styles worn over a t-shirt or light knit. Sizing up gives more room for layering through colder months but will shift the shoulder seam slightly outward, so weigh that trade-off against how often you plan to layer heavily.

Shoulder width should be treated as close to non-negotiable. If your shoulder measurement clearly matches one size while your chest measurement suggests another, prioritise the shoulder. A slightly roomier chest can be lived with. A shoulder seam sitting in the wrong place cannot be corrected once the leather has been cut and stitched.
