Inside the Nightshift: The Craftsmanship Behind VOOLUP's Black Leather Bomber Jacket for Women
A close look at the aniline sheep leather, the structured bomber silhouette and the hardware details that make the Nightshift one of VOOLUP's most versatile pieces.
Structure, Without Losing Ease
Some jackets ask you to choose between shape and comfort. The Nightshift Women's Black Leather Bomber Jacket was built to refuse that trade. It is part of our ongoing craftsmanship spotlight series, where we open up a single piece from the Women's Leather Jackets collection and explain the decisions behind it, from the hide on the cutting table to the stitch on the cuff.
The Nightshift takes the classic bomber shape, a jacket originally cut for movement, and reworks it in aniline sheep leather with a slimmer, more considered fit. The result reads as structured from across a room and feels unstructured the moment it is on.

The ribbed hem sits at the natural waist for a fitted finish.
The Leather: Aniline Sheep, Left Honest
The outer shell is 100% aniline sheep leather. Aniline finishing is the least processed way to treat a hide. Instead of coating the surface in heavy pigment, aniline dyes soak straight into the leather, so the natural grain, the faint variations and the softness of the sheepskin all stay visible. Nothing is hidden. That is also why aniline leather feels supple from the first wear rather than after months of breaking in.
Sheep leather itself is chosen deliberately for this style. It is lighter and more pliable than the cowhide typically used for heavier moto jackets, which is exactly what a fitted bomber needs. A stiffer hide would fight the slim cut. This one moves with it.
What is built into the shell
- Full-length front zip in polished metal for a clean, streamlined close
- Ribbed collar, cuffs and hem, for the athletic definition a bomber depends on
- Interior and exterior pockets set flush into the seams
- A soft viscose lining that lets the jacket slide on over layers without dragging

"A bomber only earns the name if it still moves like one. Structure is in the cut. Comfort is in the leather."
VOOLUP Design NotesWhy a Bomber, and Why This One
Compared to a biker jacket, a bomber trades the asymmetric zip and hardware-heavy front for something quieter. It is the leather jacket you reach for when a look needs to feel finished rather than rebellious. Set beside the rest of the Nightshift's closest relatives in the Women's Leather Jackets collection, the differences come down to silhouette and intent.
| Detail | Nightshift Bomber | Classic Biker Silhouette |
|---|---|---|
| Collar | Ribbed knit collar | Notched or stand-up collar |
| Closure | Centre front zip | Asymmetric front zip |
| Hem and cuffs | Ribbed knit, fitted | Straight leather hem |
| Fit through the body | Slim, slightly relaxed | Fitted, structured |
| Best worn with | Chinos, tailored trousers, a plain tee | Denim, boots, a graphic tee |
Neither silhouette is the better jacket. They are built for different moods. The Nightshift leans toward smart-casual, which is why it pairs as easily with a white shirt as it does with a graphic tee and cargo pants on a day off.
Caring for the Nightshift
Aniline leather is the most naturally finished leather VOOLUP works with, so it also asks for the most attentive care. Spot clean only, and keep a quality leather balm on hand to condition the hide every few months. Store it on a padded hanger, away from direct sunlight, so the shoulders keep their shape through the seasons. For a fuller routine, our leather jacket care guide covers cleaning, conditioning and storage in more depth, and our construction guide breaks down how the stitching and hardware choices behind a jacket like this one affect its lifespan.
